A brand new application for the iPhone has just been released. It caters to fiber artists and keeps on-the-go yarners organized. Best of all, there are no lists to lose.
The yarn world is buzzing about Ewe Stash, the knitters' and crocheters' application for Apple's iPhone and iTouch that specifically serves fiber enthusiasts. It was created by Treeness, LLC to help knitters and crocheters keep their stashes organized and to manage all the yarn, needles, hooks and notions that come with the crafts. The ApplicationEwe Stash is an easy-to-use iPhone app that helps in the management of yarn stash, that is, all the materials most fiber artists already have in their studios. Sorting tabs quickly re-sort and re-group stash items. Each sorting view arranges the items in a manner that makes sense of a stash at a glance. There are at a most basic level three sorting views: yarn, hooks, and needles. The yarn view displays all the yarns in a stash as well as their thicknesses, lengths, colors, dye lot numbers, etc. These characteristics can then be searched. For example, a list can be brought up of all the super-bulky yarns that exist in a given stash. Or, all yarns of a certain color can be listed. Each item in a stash can have a photo taken from a device's photo library or camera. The Contacts option makes restocking easier by providing the phone number, email, and directions to yarn sources. The CreatorRenee Blixt recently interviewed Ewe Stash creator, John Jusayan, owner of Treeness, LLC. Jusayan describes the creation of Ewe Stash. “My brother's girlfriend, Jen Rapalo, wanted a nice knitting app for the iPhone and iTouch. She's a graphic artist and she's the one who designed Ewe Stash's adorable icon. “I'd been wanting to learn how to knit and I thought writing a knitting/crochet app would help me in the learning process. My sister Joy Jusayan helped me name Ewe Stash -- I wanted a name that was cute and a bit quirky. “Developing for the iPhone has been and continues to be a great experience. It's a fun platform to develop for and it's rewarding to be able to reach so many people. I do have new projects that I'm working on, but none are far enough along for any sort of announcement. Most of my time right now is spent on support and updates for my existing apps.” The CompanyTreeness, LLC is located in Reno, Nevada. Their mission statement is simple, effective, and true: “At Treeness, our goal is to make software that's fun and easy to use.” Currently, Treeness, LLC has a total of four apps written for the iPhone, one of which is Ewe Stash. There are three others. Achara is an organizer that keeps track of perishables like food, herbs, and medicines. Chronology is a multi-timer / multi-stopwatch application that allows for viewing and controlling several timers at once. Crit is a dice rolling application designed for role-players. The ReviewThe data entry portion of the software is convenient. To minimize typing, much of the data can be input using lists and pickers. When typing is necessary, Ewe Stash offers suggestions based on previous data. That way, typing the same things over and over again is not required. As Treeness’s website states, “Life can be delightful.” Treeness specializes in providing organizational tools for iPhone owners, freeing up more time for the pursuit of their passions, whether they be yarning, gaming, or keeping an orderly environment. Their prices are reasonable, their apps are practical and intuitive, and Ewe Stash in particular is a long time coming. Always having a stash inventory at hand really does make life just a little bit more delightful for fiber artists everywhere. Breaking NewsThere has already been a recent update (version 1.1.0) to Ewe Stash. Features were added that had been suggested by users, such as providing fields for: the number of skeins/balls with an automatically calculated total, needle length, and hook length. These updates will continue to be released, and will be provided at no charge to current owners of the software. Visit more at the Treeness Website.
