Crochet Me!, Kim Werker
Crochet Me! by Kim Werker claims to carry "Designs to Fuel the Crochet Revolution." It does not disappoint.

Looking for plain Jane crochet projects? They won’t be found in Crochet Me!, a full-color book by Kim Werker. Werker, the editor of Interweave Crochet, has brought together 18 exciting crochet patterns from the magazine’s favorite up-and-coming designers. These sweaters, skirts, bags, home accessories, scarves, and even flirty stockings are all totally unique, but more importantly, they look fabulous.

Crochet’s Reputation

Crochet used to have an un-hip reputation, but this generation is taking it back and demonstrating that it can be stylish, edgy, and fun. Kim Werker is leading this revolution by reinterpreting crochet design and pushing its limits with Crochet Me.

“Crocheters first reaction to the garments in the book has been, 'I didn’t know crochet could do that,'” says Werker in an interview with Interweave Press, October, 2007. “The response from knitters has been even more transforming, and many have commented, ‘I can’t believe I’m saying this, but the book makes me want to crochet. I only use crochet to edge things and I hate granny squares.’ But the garments are incredible.”

CrochetMe.com

The book Crochet Me! came out of the website of the same name which was created by Kim Werker. Her goal was to take crochet out of the basement bazaars, revamp some designs, and get yarners excited about crochet once again. From this humble beginning an editor was born. In a profound and fortuitous turn of events, Werker became the editor of Interweave Crochet, a print magazine.

Crochet Me! – The Book

Eighteen fashion-forward patterns are presented in Crochet Me! and run the spectrum from jewelry to thigh-high stockings, retro bags, scarves, sweaters, shrugs, and home décor. The patterns explore color, texture, design, embellishment, and customization.

Up-and-coming designers are profiled throughout the book to entertain and inspire a new generation of crocheters. They share what inspires them, how they find community with other crocheters, and creative ideas for breaking the rules and representing their individual styles.

Primer and More

The book includes a primer on crochet and a tutorial on sizing, design, and special techniques, so all levels of crocheters can enjoy the book. Basic techniques are covered along with tutorials on sizing, gauge, blocking, shaping, design, Tunisian Crochet and Tapestry Crochet. Each advance technique is presented with the pattern that utilizes it, allowing the book to contain a lot of new and exciting information that adds to crochet literature without the sterility of a reference book.

Give the book a try, especially if you are a knitter. Anyone and everyone looking to use crochet in a new way can empower themselves to start their own crochet revolution. Crochet isn’t just for crocheters anymore.

Are there any books that contain patterns that have items that men might want to actually wear?
