Interweave Press has recently released the box sets, 101 Stitches to Crochet & 101 Stitches to Knit. They make terrific gifts for knitters and crocheters.

All knitters and crocheters use patterns, at least from time to time. But sometimes, a crafter may want to substitute a stitch pattern. 101 Stitches to Crochet & 101 Stitches to Knit by Erika Knight provide hundreds of stitch patterns in box and card form. With these sets, there’s no need to carry around heavy books; simply choose the desired card and carry it along with the project.

Portable Stitch Instructions

The new box-and-card sets are easy to carry and feature 101 stitches and related technique booklets in each set. Each card in the deck offers step-by-step instructions for a different stitch or motif with full-color photography of the finished sample. One of the beauties of this form is an entire book does not need to be lugged everywhere along with the project.

These cards are great for commuting, appointments, and breaks because they are so light. Their sturdy card stock won’t easily bend, and they are so easy to carry. They lend themselves well to pattern stitch substitution, or they can simply be used to learn new stitch patterns.

The Harmony Guides

The Harmony Guides have been dependable references for handcrafters for more than thirty years, and offer clear, concise instructions and photographs of innumerable stitches. The new box and card sets allow crochet and knitting enthusiasts to take their favorite guides with them on-the-go.

The Author / Editor

The editor of the sets, Erika Knight, is a design consultant, with a special interest in knitwear. She brings her considerable expertise of the market to inform the choice of projects, fabrics, and textures in all the The Harmony Guides. She is the author of Simple Knits for Easy Living, Simple Knits for Cherished Babies, and Simple Knits for Little Cherubs. Knight resides in England.

The Review

These cards are terrific learning tools, and will expand any knitter / crocheter’s knowledge. It must be kept in mind, however, that these cards do not have complete patterns on them. Instead, they illustrate stitch patterns. So, while they are fantastic references, they are for the more experienced fiber artist who is able to substitute and/or design at least a little on her own.

Release Information

The guide box sets were released in October, 2008. Each set measures about 5¼ inches by 6½ inches, and include 101 cards & 101 photographs. Retail price for each boxed set is $19.95 USD.

The Harmony Guides are published by Interweave Press, one of the largest and most respected arts and craft media companies. It has businesses in magazine and book publishing, online media, television and video programming, directories and events. Interweave Press is a trusted name amongst crafters.
